The MITA license

I am retiring the MITA license. Being an almost exact copy of the MIT license, it is a good example of license proliferation. When people see "license: MIT" they know what that means, and even if it means the same thing, that just doesn't go for "license: MITA". On top of that, I think that I have found a way to sidestep my own issues with the MIT license without actually using a different license.

For now, the license is still in use in some of my projects, so I'm keeping the text below unmodified. However, the limited number of contributors on projects where I used this license means that I don't think I will have much trouble changing the license in the future. So, ultimately, I don't expect this page to stay around forever.

MITA

The MITA license is my modified version of the MIT license (or, as OSI would have me say, the Expat license). The only change is that the phrase "copyright notice" has been replaced by "atttribution notice". I think it is 100% compatible with the MIT license when it comes to interoperability with other licenses and the same in what protection it gives, but at the end of the day I am not a lawyer.

I created the MITA license because I didn't like the way it often claims inaccurate copyrights. See this blog post for more information. The idea is that with this "fork" of the license, the attribution notice can take any shape or form you like.

MITA is pronounced similar to (Playstation) Vita. It stands for "MIT-Attribution". See below for the full text of this license.
